Star Wars Costume Spotlight: Evolution of the Senate Guards
Today we’ll take a look at the Senate Guards and how they evolved from the Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith into Sidious’s Imperial Guards from Return of the Jedi!
Remember that as Senate Guards they were assigned to guard Chancellor Palpatine, then they guarded him when he revealed himself as Sidious the Emperor. They were then referred to as Imperial Guards.
Now let’s look at the three different versions of the Senate Guards:
Here’s the first version of the Senate Guards from the Clone Wars series. These Guards look more like Clone Troopers because of the armor and shape of the helmet:
Here’s the second version of the Senate Guard from Revenge of the Sith. The helmet of the costume is differently shaped and supports a kind of mohawk that’s split down the middle. The velvet cloak, clothes, helmet, and shoes are blue (except the mohawk which is black):
Here’s the third version of the Senate Guards (now an Imperial Guard) from Return of the Jedi. They morphed into a differently shaped helmet without the mohawk. And the color is a more menacing red instead of blue:

Star Wars Costume Spotlight: Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ben Kenobi)
Today’s costume spotlight will be of the great Jedi Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi (referred to as Ben Kenobi by Luke from A New Hope).
After the fall of the old Republic and the rise of the Empire, Obi-Wan went into exile on Tatooine to watch over Luke in hopes of training him to becoming a Jedi (though Uncle Owen didn’t want him to). Obi-Wan was shown to be living in a small hut that was at the edge of the dune sea.
You’ll also remember that during the Lightsaber duel on the Death Star, Obi-Wan made a sacrifice of himself in order to inspire Luke to become a great Jedi like his father before him.
Here’s the full Obi-Wan costume:
In this close up you can see the dirty spots on the robes indicating that they haven’t been washed in years. Also the robes are falling apart because of the holes and the tatters that are along the edges:
In this close up of the belt you can see that the belt buckle is rusted. The clip that Obi-Wan uses to carry his lightsaber is a bit rusted as well:
In this close up of the bottom of the robe you can see a hole near the edge:
From the looks of the costume Obi-Wan hasn’t replaced his clothing since he has been living in exile on Tatooine.

Star Wars Costume Spotlight: Tusken Raiders (Sand People)
Today’s costume spotlight are the inhabitants of Tatooine—the Tusken Raiders (also referred to as the Sand People).
If you recall the Tusken Raiders are primitive creatures who can be hostile to local settlers of Tatooine. In episode I, a scene showed several Tusken Raiders camping out on the Canyon Dune Turn during a Pod race.
In episode II, another group of Tusken Raiders were killed by Anakin Skywalker because they had imprisoned and tortured his mother Shmi. In episode IV Luke was attack by a Tusken Raider while he and C-3PO where looking for R2-D2.
When that Tusken Raider and his friends where about to take Luke’s speeder apart, Obi-Wan managed to scare them off by doing an imitation of a deadly predator called Krayt Dragon.
Side note: Tusken Raiders use Bantha’s for tansportation and they always ride single file to hid their numbers. Plus, once easily started, they often return in greater numbers.
Here’s the full costumes of a male Tusken Raider (right) and a Female Tusken Raider (left). The male Tusken Raider’s masks have high angle lenses to protect their eyes and scope out any intruders, and a leather-wrapped mouth to filter out the harsh air. The female’s mask looks more like a knight’s visor:
In this close up you can see that the top of the weapon is rusted and so is the lenses on the mask. On the sleeve of the robe, there’s a dirt stain:
In this close up, there’s a bit of a stain next to the mask. The metal of the bronze mask looks like a lizard’s skin.
These costumes kind of capture the Tusken Raiders’s reptile-like appearance.

Star Wars Costume Spotlight: Jango Fett
Hey Star Wars fans! Today we’ll take a look at the infamous Jango Fett from Attack of the Clones and his son, Boba of Episodes V and VI.
In Episode II, you may recall Jango Fett was hired by Viceroy Gunray to kill Padme. And it turns out he’s the guy who gave his DNA to the people of Kamino to create the clone army in return for a little Jango clone of his own: Boba. He was finally killed by Mace Windu in the Geonosis battle arena, an incident that may explain a lot about Boba Fett’s future in Episodes V and VI.
Now here’s the full Jango Fett costume:
In these close ups you can see that there are seven ammunition pouches on Jango’s belt (top) while Boba’s has eight (bottom):
Here you can see that Boba’s jet pack (right) and Jango’s (left) are very different. For example the rocket boosters on Boba’s pack are more out to the side while the rocket boosters on Jango’s pack aren’t. The missile head on Boba’s pack is longer while Jango’s missile head on his pack is shorter. While Jango’s pack looks well cleaned, Boba’s is old because the the missile head is rusted and the paint is chipped off:
In this close up of one of Jango’s wrist bands and one of his blasters you can see they are a bit dirty:
Another wrist band:
In this close up of the feet you can see that the armor on the legs is scorched (due to blaster fighting):

Star Wars Costume Spotlight: BB-8
Hey Star Wars fans! Today I am going to be doing a post on everyone’s other fan favorite and Poe Dameron’s droid partner, BB-8 himself!
If you recall BB-8 worked with Poe Dameron the X-Wing fighter pilot while they where looking for a map that led to Luke Skywalker. When Poe was captured by the First Order, BB-8 went off into the desert of Jakku to find someone who could help him. He was able to get help from Rey and Finn.
Now before we go on to the costume here are a couple of composite sketches of how BB-8 started out:
In the first one of the sketches that was drawn by J.J. Abrams (see my previous post):
Here’s the sketch of BB-8 today:
Here’s a photo of BB-8 as he appeared in The Force Awakens:
Here’s a close up of BB-8 from the side:
In this close up you can see that the head is covered with dirt and dust:
In this close-up you can see the bottom of his body is covered in dirt and dust as well. That’s what happens when being in the desert for so long:

Star Wars Costume Spotlight: Rey and Finn
Today’s costume spotlight will be the costumes of the new characters from The Force Awakens film. These characters are Rey the desert scavenger (soon to be Jedi) and Finn (FN-2187) the rogue Stormtrooper.
Now before we go on to the costumes here’s a concept sketch of Rey:
Here’s the full costume of Rey’s Jakku scavenger outfit:
In this close up you can see that the fabric for the shoulder and top part is torn. The gloves are dirty and the staff looks a little rusted:
In this close up you can see that the lenses of Rey’s goggles suggest that she took those out from an old Stormtrooper helmet:
Here’s Finn’s full costume. As you can see the shirt and pants of the costume are a bit dirty, the jacket (that belongs to Poe Dameron) looks wrinkled, and the Stormtrooper shoes are covered in a lot of dirt:
