Star Wars Costume Spotlight: Evolution of the Senate Guards
Today we’ll take a look at the Senate Guards and how they evolved from the Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith into Sidious’s Imperial Guards from Return of the Jedi!
Remember that as Senate Guards they were assigned to guard Chancellor Palpatine, then they guarded him when he revealed himself as Sidious the Emperor. They were then referred to as Imperial Guards.
Now let’s look at the three different versions of the Senate Guards:
Here’s the first version of the Senate Guards from the Clone Wars series. These Guards look more like Clone Troopers because of the armor and shape of the helmet:
Here’s the second version of the Senate Guard from Revenge of the Sith. The helmet of the costume is differently shaped and supports a kind of mohawk that’s split down the middle. The velvet cloak, clothes, helmet, and shoes are blue (except the mohawk which is black):
Here’s the third version of the Senate Guards (now an Imperial Guard) from Return of the Jedi. They morphed into a differently shaped helmet without the mohawk. And the color is a more menacing red instead of blue:
