New Vader helmets made from original movie mold Theforce.net reports the eFX company is releasing two new Darth Vader replica helmets made from the original movie helmet molds. They’ll be shipping sometime in April or May! The price for the first Vader Helmet (special edition) will cost $329 while the second one (which is standard edition) will cost $299. Here are a few details: These new helmets were derived from castings made from the Rick Baker mold which was taken directly off the screen-used ANH helmet. Those castings were 3-d scanned and from there injection mold tooling was made. They are incredibly durable but super lightweight compared to a fiberglass helmet. Original builder of R2-D2 Tony Dyson has just passed away BBC.com reports that today Tony Dyson, the original builder of the worlds most famous droid R2-D2, other robots, and special effects for other movies, has passed away at 68 years old (tip of the hat to Makingstarwars.net)! Some facts: He made four remote control R2-D2 units – two units for the actor Kenny Baker to sit in with a seat fitted inside and two throw away units to be used in a bog scene in Empire Strikes Back where a monster spits out the droid onto dry land. Prof Dyson also worked on Superman ll, Moonraker and Dragon Slayer, and was nominated for an Emmy for his film special effects supervision. For the Bond film Moonraker he created 36 model spacemen complete with backpacks, laser guns and space suits for the space scene. He also directed the special effects filming of Hector the evil robot in Saturn 3 – a science fiction film starring Kirk Douglas, Farrah Fawcett and Harvey Keitel. His other film work included designing and producing 35 feet of latex human intestines, used in the dream scene for the 1980 Ken Russell film Altered States starring William Hurt; and working on the giant robot dragon in 1981’s Dragon Slayer. He also designed and built robots for some of the largest electronic companies in the world including Sony, Philips and Toshiba as well as for a number of TV commercials and leisure parks around the world. Brand new Star Wars shows are coming to Disney World in April Starwarsunderworld.com reports that on April 4th, 2016 there will be some cool brand new Star Wars shows coming to Disney World’s Hollywood Studios park! This information came from an article on a site called Disneyparks.disney.go.com! According to the article: The Force will officially awaken at the park April 4, with the debut of the brand new Star Wars stage show, “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away.” The new show will play out iconic moments from the film saga on Center Stage (in front of the Chinese Theater), and will feature appearances from Star Wars characters like Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, Darth Vader and Darth Maul. Also starting April 4, Captain Phasma will begin leading a platoon of First Order stormtroopers on a march from Star Wars Launch Bay to Center Stage multiple times each day. And starting this summer, fans won’t want to miss the grand debut of a new Star Wars fireworks show, “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular.” This new nightly show is the next generation of the current Star Wars-inspired fireworks show.
