Star Wars Costume Spotlight: More Leia’s outfits (and the famous bikini)
Since we’ve looked at the white gown that Leia wore through out “Episode: IV: A New Hope,” here are other outfits she wore in episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
If you recall in one of the scene’s of Return of the Jedi, Leia was dressed as a bounty hunter in order infiltrate Jabba the Hutt’s palace and freed Han Solo from the Carbonite. Later, she is forced to wear her most famous costume: the slinky slave bikini.
Now before we go on to Leia’s bounty hunter costume lets first take a look at this concept 3d model of it:
Here’s the full bounty hunter costume:
In this close up you can see that the equipment looks old and the fabric looks a bit dirty. The thermal detonator looks dented and beat up like it hasn’t been used in years:
Now here’s the full bikini slave costume that Leia was forced to wear for Jabba:
In this close up you can see that the chain and the color look very rusted:
In this close up you can see that the gold paint is chipped off:
In this close up the boots of the costume are wrinkled and a little bleached:

Star Wars Costume Spotlight: Chancellor Palpatine (Darth Sidious)
While Padme went through lots of costume changes, Darth Sidious only managed 5!
If you recall, Chancellor Palpatine (Darth Sidious) was seen wearing 4 different traditional chancellor robes in episodes I through III. And he was seen wearing his traditional Sith Lord black robes in episodes I through VI.
Here’s the first robe that Palpatine (Sidious) wore through out the whole Phantom Menace movie before he was elected as the new chancellor of the republic:
He wore the first traditional chancellor robe during Attack of the Clones after being voted as the new Supreme Chancellor of the republic. The upper sleeves of the costume are very bulky:
This is the third robe he wore in Revenge of the Sith. The robe does look a bit bumpy like lizard skin:
Here’s the traditional chancellor red and dark red robe he wore when he addressed the senate about the Jedi taking over the republic. He was still wearing it when facing Yoda in a duel:
Now here’s Palpatine (Sidious) dressed in his traditional Sith Lord black robes that he wore in The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Return of the Jedi:

Star Wars Costume Spotlight: Princess Leia
Padme’s costumes are incredibly elaborate, as you saw in our earlier post on the queens. Princess Leia, on the other hand, is simplicity personified.
In Episode IV: A New Hope, through out the whole movie, Leia was seen wearing the very same white gown. Compared this to Padme’s numerous costume changes and the elaborate designs of most of her gowns!
Here’s a concept sketch of Leia’s white gown from A New Hope:
Here’s the full white gown:
In this close up of the belt of the dress, it shows that there’s what appears to be some kind of glue stain next to one of the aluminum plates. This indicates outfit was well used!

Star Wars Costume Spotlight: Padme’s other outfits
Since we’ve looked at the dresses, lets now look at the other outfits that Padme wore during Attack of the Clones!
As you may know Padme was wearing a pilot outfit while her decoy wore a traditional senator dress. She did this in order to find out if she was in real danger or not. Padme then wore a white outfit during the battle of Geonosis (which was the first battle of the Clone Wars).
Here’s the pilot outfit disguise that Padme wore during first scene of Attack of the Clones:
Here’s the second outfit that Padme wore during the battle of Geonosis:
In this close up you can see that the bottom part of the shirt has been torn off and so has one of the sleeves:
Here’s the back of this outfit. You can see that there are some scratch marks on it (looks painful!). Those kind of marks where made by a feline alien creature known as a Nexu:

Star Wars Costume Spotlight: Padme Amadala’s Dresses
Yesterday we’ve looked at the Handmaiden’s dresses, so today lets look at Padme’s and the new Queen’s Dresses!
As you may know, Natalie Portman (Padme) had a series of different costume changes throughout episodes I-III. Especially as Queen, she seems to have a new costume every scene!
Here’s the full outfit of the first dress Padme wore in The Phantom Menace:
Here’s a close up of the bottom part of the dress:
Here’s a concept sketch of the dress that Padme’s decoy was wearing, also in the Phantom Menace:
Now here’s the full dress:
Here’s a concept sketch of the dress Padme wore when she was addressing the senate about Naboo’s predicament:
Here’s the full dress:
Here’s the dress Padme wore in the senate after Palpatine’s meeting with the Jedi was adjourned:
Here’s the dress Padme wore while she was packing her things before going with Anakin back to her home planet Naboo:
Here’s the dress she wore on the boat trip to a seaside resort on Naboo:
She wore this dress while she was having a picnic with Anakin:
The dress she wore was seen when she and Anakin where having dinner together:
Here’s this dress she wore when she told Anakin that she was pregnant (Revenge of the Sith):
Padme wore this night dress when she was getting ready for bed:
Padme wore this dress during the sunset on Coruscant:
Now lets look at the dresses that the two newly elected Queens of Naboo wore during episodes II and III.
The first newly elected Queen (Jamillia) wore this traditional reception dress in Attack of the Clones when she, Padme, Anakin and the other senators where having a meeting about a full scale war:
Here’s a close up of the very impressive bead work on this traditional reception dress:
The second newly elected Queen (Availana) wore this traditional funeral dress during Padme’s funeral, after she died giving birth to Luke and Leia:
Wow that’s an amazing round up of dress! Stay tuned as I make more of the next Star Wars costumes.

Star Wars Costume Spotlight: Handmaidens Dresses
Hey Star Wars fans! Continuing my Star Wars costume series, this next group of costumes will be the dresses of Queen Amadala’s handmaidens (and herself)!
Here are the dresses from the different scenes of the Phantom Menace:
This first handmaiden dress was seen during the scenes featuring the planets Naboo, Tatooine (the desert planet), and Coruscant (the capital planet). Though the other handmaidens were seen wearing these dresses, Padme was dressed in one as well while her decoy was dressed in the traditional queen’s dress and makeup.
This dress was seen during the throne room scene on Naboo where Padme was having a meeting with the senators while the Trade Federation were starting the invasion of Naboo.
This dress appeared during a scene that took place on Coruscant where Padme and Palpatine where having a discussion.
Note that this dress appeared during the final scene of the Phantom Menace where they were celebrating when the Trade Federation was defeated and peace was restored to Naboo.
