Star Wars Costume Spot light: Darth Maul

Hey Star Wars fans! I recently attended the Star Wars costumes exhibit at the Denver Art museum (the exhibit going on tour—click here for itinerary)!

I think that it was amazing see all of the different costumes from the entire Star Wars movie universe plus seeing the concept art designs on how the costumes evolved over time.

So today I am going to kick off a series of posts of my favorite Star Wars costumes from the exhibit. Today: Darth Maul.

First lets look at the early concept art of the costume. Lucas wanted Darth to look like a nightmare so here are the official concepts of Maul:

Since looking at these designs, I wonder if Darth Maul look likes he was a member of the Nightsister clan. The second design surprised me because the sketch made Darth Maul look like something from a Horror film.

After seeing these initial sketches, Lucas apparently said they were too scary. So the final Darth Maul is mostly robes, black leather books and that iconic read head!
